Expedition in Nepal » Mt. Manaslu (8163 m.)

Manaslu ExpeditionManaslu, a name which means ‘intellect’ or ‘soul’ is located in the central north of Nepal. HW Tilman and Jimmy Roberts photographed the peak during a trek in 1950, but the first real survey of it was made by a Japanese expedition in 1952.

The Japanese also made the first serious attempt on the peak from the Buri Gandaki valley in 1953. The Japanese came back in 1954, but the villagers of Samagaon told them that the first team had been responsible for an avalanche which destroyed a monastery and refused to let them approach the mountain. Finally in 1956 another Japanese expedition succeeded in reaching the summit. Because of these attempts Manaslu has always been known as a ‘Japanese mountain’ and Japanese mountaineers have made other, difficult, routes to the top.




Outline Itinerary

Day 01 : pick up from the International Airport and transfer to Hotel.
Day 02-03 : Kathmandu sightseeing. We will spend a couple of days organizing permits and sightseeing around the Kathmandu Valley. The valley is the site of four ancient capitals with their attendant palaces, temples and squares, and the modern city's chaotic and fascinating streets, markets, shops and restaurants with intermingled Buddhist and Hindu temples can keep you occupied for days. One night there will be a welcome dinner.
Day 04 : Drive Gorkha and trek to kalikathan.
Day 05 : kalikathan to khanchock (750m).
Day 06 : khanchock Arukhet (800m).
Day0 7 : Arukhet to Khursane (930m).
Day 08 : Khursane to Filingee (1400m).
Day 09 : Filingee to Bhi (2200m).
Day 10 : Bihi to Lihi (2840m).
Day 11 : Lihi to Sama Goan (3390m).
Day 12 : Sama Goan rest for Acclimatization.
Day 13 : Sama Gaon to Base Camp (4200m).
Day 14 : Settle Manaslu base camp.
Day 15-45 : Climbing period Manaslu.
Day 46 : Cleaning up base camp.
Day 47 : Sama Gaon. Overnight in camp.
Day 48 : Namrong. Overnight in Camp.
Day 49 : Jagat. Overnight in camp.
Day 50 : Machakhola. Overnight in camp.
Day 51 : Arukhet. Overnight in camp.
Day 51 : Gorkha. Overnight in camp.
Day 52 : Drive back to Kathmandu overnight in Hotel.
Day 53 : Rest/free day in Kathmandu and farewell Diner.
Day 54 : Transfer to International Airport and fly home.
