Day
01: Fly Kathmandu to Lukla (about 35 minutes)
and trek to Phakding (2612m) 4 hrs. Overnight in Lodge.
This is easy way walk passing through pleasant Sherpa
villages and with views of Kongde and Kusumkhangaru
two of Nepal’s technical trekking peaks.
Day 02: Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3446m)
6 hrs. Overnight in Lodge. Today you will cross the
Dudh Koshi River several times after entering the Sagamatha
National Park at Jorsale, where we will probably have
lunch as there is no tea house between there and Namche
Bazaar. Beyond Jorsale we cross a high bridge then climb
steeply up to Namche Bazaar, a climb of about two hours.
On this climb you need to go very slowly and to drink
a lot. But you must also admire the view of the peaks
of Thaserku, Kusumkhangaru, Khongde among others.
Day 03: Acclimatization rest day in
Namche Bazaar. We will make an excursion around Everest
View Hotel, from where there is a spectacular view of
Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Kangtenga, Thamaserku,
Khunde and many more peaks.
Day 04: Namche Bazaar to Tengboche
Monastery (3870m) 6 hrs. Overnight in Lodge. On most
treks we see Himalayan Thar, Danphe (the National Bird
of Nepal) and Musk Deer along the trail. Lunch will
be at Phunki Thanka, a small place, but at the lowest
altitude of the day’s trek. At Phunki Thanka there
are several water-driven prayer wheels. After lunch
we tackle the steep path through forest, reaching the
famous Tengboche monastery after about 2 hours.
Day 05: Tengboche to Pheriche (4240m).
About 6 hours. From Tengboche we walk through rhododendron
forests,

then descend a muddy trail to Debuche to cross the Imja
Khola river. On the trail we pass several mani walls,
then a couple of chortens on the way to Pangboche. The
Pangboche Gompa is the oldest in the Khumbu area. When
the trail to Pheriche crosses a small hill you can see
not only the village, but Island Peak, one of Nepal’s
most famous trekking peaks.
Day 06: Pheriche. Rest day for acclimatization.
The best way to acclimatize is to go high and sleep
low, so we will climb towards Mhera Peak, at 5200m,
from where there is a spectacular view of Nupse, Iland
peak, Makalu, Ama Dablam, Thamaserku, Khangtenga, Tawache
Peak, Cholatse and Lobuche Peak.
Day 07: Pheriche to Lobuche (4900m).
About 5 hours. The trail rises steeply to Thukla, then
crosses the Thukla pass, where there are many memorials
to climbers who have died on Everest. Then the trail
drops gently and follows the western side of the Khumbu
valley to reach Lobuche.
Day 08: Lobuche to Kala Pattar (5545m).
The trail from Lobuche follows the Khumbu valley through
meadows beside the Khumbu Glacier, then becomes more
rocky as you approach Gorak Shep. We will eat lunch
here before climbing to the small black hill of Kala
Pattar which provides the best view of Everest, Nuptse
and Lhotse. If the weather is good we will do the climb
late in the day to watch the sun set on Everest. We
overnight at Gorak Shep (5150m).
Day 09: Gorak Shep to Everest Base
Camp (5300m). The trek to Base Camp is fascinating and
takes about 3 hours. The views of Pumori and the Khumbu
Icefall are spectacular.
Day 10: Gorak Shep to Dingboche (4410m).
5 to 6 hrs. We trek back to Thukla, then take a high
trail past an old yak farm to reach Dingboche.
Day 11: Dingboche to Tengboche (3870m).
About 6 hrs. We go via Upper Pangboche, where there
is a very old monastery, and then continue to Tengboche.
Day 12: Tengboche to Namche Bazaar
(3446m). About 5 hrs. We reverse our outward route,
descending to Phunki Thanga, than ascending the ridge
towards Namche Bazaar.
Day 13: Namche Bazaar to Lukla (2800m).
About 7 hrs. It is a long walk from Namche to Lukla,
