Everest Base Camp Trek |
|
| |
Everest
region is one of the very safest areas for trekking,
as well as allowing a close-up view of the world’s
highest
mountain. Everest Base Camp is one of the best trekking
destinations in the world and the Solukhumbu area is
justifiably famous, not only for Everest, but for its
Sherpa villages and monasteries. Although the main goal
of an Everest trek is Base Camp, at an elevation of
about 5340m, you cannot see the mountain from there,
though you will enjoy the view of the beautiful, but
dangerous, Khumbu icefall. For the best view trekkers
must climb KalaPattar a 5545m hump on the southern flank
of Pumori (7145m) from where there is dramatic view
of Everest, the Western Cwm and Lhotse Face.
Outline Itinerary
Day 01: We pick you up from the International
Airport and transfer you to your hotel.
Day 02-03: Kathmandu sightseeing. We
will spend a couple of days sightseeing around the Kathmandu
Valley. The valley is the site of four ancient capitals
with their attendant palaces, temples and squares, and
the modern city's chaotic and fascinating streets, markets,
shops and restaurants with intermingled Buddhist and
Hindu temples. The streets can keep you occupied for
days. OneDanney and Benethen in Bhaktapur night there
will be a welcome dinner.
Day 04: Fly Kathmandu to Lukla (about
35 minutes) and trek to Phakding (2612m) 4 hrs. Overnight
in Lodge. This is easy way walk passing through pleasant
Sherpa villages and with views of Kongde and Kusumkhangaru
two of Nepal’s technical trekking peaks.
Day 05: Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3446m)
6 hrs. Overnight in Lodge. Today you will cross the
Dudh Koshi River several times after entering the Sagamatha
National Park at Jorsale, where we will probably have
lunch as there is no tea house between there and Namche
Bazaar. Beyond Jorsale we cross a high bridge then climb
steeply up to Namche Bazaar, a climb of about two hours.
On this climb you need to go very slowly and to drink
a lot. But you must also admire the view of the peaks
of Thaserku, Kusumkhangaru, Khongde among others.

Day
06: Acclimatization rest day in Namche Bazaar.
We will make an excursion around Everest View Hotel,
from
where there is a spectacular view of Everest, Lhotse,
Ama Dablam, Kangtenga, Thamaserku, Khunde and many more
peaks.
Day 07: Namche Bazaar to Tengboche
Monastery (3870m) 6 hrs. Overnight in Lodge. On most
treks we see Himalayan Thar, Danphe (the National Bird
of Nepal) and Musk Deer along the trail. Lunch will
be at Phunki Thanka, a small place, but at the lowest
altitude of the day’s trek. At Phunki Thanka there
are several water-driven prayer wheels. After lunch
we tackle the steep path through forest, reaching the
famous Tengboche monastery after about 2 hours.
Day 08: Tengboche to Pheriche (4240m).
About 6 hours. From Tengboche we walk through rhododendron
forests, then descend a muddy trail to Debuche to cross
the Imja Khola river. On the trail we pass several mani
walls, then a couple of chortens on the way to Pangboche.
The Pangboche Gompa is the oldest in the Khumbu area.
When the trail to Pheriche crosses a small hill you
can see not only the village, but Island Peak, one of
Nepal’s most famous trekking peaks.
Day 09: Pheriche. Rest day for acclimatization.
The best way to acclimatize is to go high and sleep
low, so we will climb towards Mhera Peak, at 5200m,
from where there is a spectacular view of Nupse, Iland
peak, Makalu, Ama Dablam, Thamaserku, Khangtenga, Tawache
Peak, Cholatse and Lobuche Peak.
Thukla pass
Day 10: Pheriche to Lobuche (4900m).
About 5 hours. The trail rises steeply to Thukla, then
crosses the Thukla pass, where there are many memorials
to climbers who have died on Everest. Then the trail
drops gently and follows the western side of the Khumbu
valley to reach Lobuche. |
|
| |
|
|
| |
Day
11: Lobuche to Kala Pattar (5545m). The trail
from Lobuche follows the Khumbu valley through meadows
beside
the Khumbu Glacier, then becomes more rocky as you approach
Gorak Shep. We will eat lunch here before climbing to
the small black hill of Kala Pattar which provides the
best view of Everest, Nuptse and Lhotse. If the weather
is good we will do the climb late in the day to watch
the sun set on Everest. We overnight at Gorak Shep (5150m).
Day 12: Gorak Shep to Everest Base
Camp (5300m). The trek to Base Camp is fascinating and
takes about 3 hours. The views of Pumori and the Khumbu
Icefall are spectacular.
Day 13: Gorak Shep to Dingboche (4410m).
5 to 6 hrs. We trek back to Thukla, then take a high
trail past an old yak farm to reach Dingboche.
Day 14: Dingboche to Tengboche (3870m).
About 6 hrs. We go via Upper Pangboche, where there
is a very old monastery, and then continue to Tengboche. |
|
| |
|
|
| |
Day
15: Tengboche to Namche Bazaar (3446m). About
5 hrs. We reverse our outward route, descending to Phunki
 Thanga,
than ascending the ridge towards Namche Bazaar.
Day 16: Namche Bazaar to Lukla (2800m).
About 7 hrs. It is a long walk from Namche to Lukla,
but by now you will be very acclimatized, and we have
all day.
Day 17: Short flight from Lukla to
Kathmandu, and transfer to Hotel.
White River Rafting on Trishuli
Nepal has earned a reputation as one of the best destinations
in the world for white water rafting. The country's
thundering waters, coming from the glaciers of the mighty
Himalaya, provide unmatched thrills for rafting and
immersing oneself in the landscape.
The Trisuli is Nepal's most popular rafting river, with
impressive gorges, exciting rapids, some easier sections,
and
easy access from both Kathmandu and Pokhara. The Trisuli
trip is fun, and is safe for all age groups. Our 2-day
trips, which can be an extension of the Everest trek,
will overnight at Trisuli River Retreat, our private
camp with comfortable safari-tented accommodation set
in private grounds. There are fine river views and the
site is surrounded by forest. The river is recommended
for intermediate kayakers, but most guests prefer cruising
down the rushing river in an inflatable rubber raft
for the excitement of a lifetime. A rafting trip is
bound to be the highlight of your stay in the country. Our
2-day extension offer:
Day 18: Kathmandu to Charaudi, 2 or
3 hours by bus. Your rafting starts after your guide
has told you about the trip and the necessary safety
features. There are many rapids on this section of the
river making it exceptionally good for white water rafting.
After about two hours rafting we stop for lunch, then
continue, reaching our camp at Kurintar.
Day 19: More rafting, both before and
after lunch, eventually reaching Pachkilo where you
will be picked up.You can now either return to Kathmandu,
or continue to the Royal Chitwan National Park, visiting
a typical Tharu village and an elephant breeding station
on the way. |

birds, then walk through the jungle to seek out more
