A 2 month climbing expedition to the Killer Mountain The 9th highest peak in the world, Nanga Parbat marks the dazzling culmination of the westernmost end of the Himalayas. Bounded to the north and west by the mighty river Indus, to the south its Rupal face rises almost sheer for upwards of 4500 meters (14,800ft), the greatest single face on any mountain in the world. In an extraordinary effort in 1953, Austrian Herman Buhl made the first ascent, reaching the summit on all fours after climbing the last 1300 meters on his own. Now the Mazeno Ridge with its seven summits is considered as the greatest challenge left on 8000 m peak. These days most of the expeditions attempt Nanga Parbat from Diamir Face.
