The Raging River
Total Days : 04 Days
The Marsyangdi, which means "Raging River" in the local dialect, is so powerful that we hire the porters to carry all our gear back down the river, allowing us to run with empty boats for maximum maneuverability, speed, and fun. Only in Nepal, with its porter traditions, is it possible to run a river like the Marsyangdi in rafts.
The short trek to the river is stunning, with great views of the Manaslu and the Annapurnas ahead of you the whole time. Following the Annapurna circuit we wander through charming Gurung villages and emerald fields of rice. Children play excitedly along the trail as we pass, snowcapped Himalayan giants surround us, and the champagne river churns and bubbles below. For people who want a longer trip that combines a great short trek with intense white water, the Marsyangdi is without a doubt the river to run.
Raft the Raging River while you can as initial work on the middle dam has commenced at Philesangu. It is sad to say but in a few short years the Marsyangdi will no longer be free flowing in the upper reaches.
