Altitude sickness will probably the worry trekkers most of all. Altitude sickness is physical reaction at a high altitude caused by low air pressure and a lack of the oxygen. Early symptom will be a headache, shortened of breath, and weariness. Advanced symptoms are nausea, sleeplessness, and diarrhea. In the worst case, it could cause death, which is not rare. Some are prone to to and others are not .your physical condition of the day may have some influence. Consequently, it is very much according to each individual.
Generally speaking, altitude sickness symptoms begin to show at about the altitude of 3500m.if beyond 4000m, almost everyone will feel same of the symptoms, although same feel more than the others. As long as you are climbing high, you cannot avoid altitude sickness. What is important is acclimatization or how you adapt your body to high altitude environments. It will help you know the following. after 3500m,plan not to gain more than 500meters of altitude per day. When you reached 4000meters,set a stationary day or two to adjust your body to the high altitude. You should be climbing nearby lower hills of 200-300 meters altitude differences. Moving around without straining yourself is better than just lying still. At a high altitude water is excreted much more than in the lowland, causing dehydration. Be conscious about dirking much water. It is said that you need to drink a minimum of four liters a day at a night altitude. If you have bad symptoms you should descend the mountain quickly. Inhaling oxygen is only temporary treatment. Climbing down will be the best remedy. After a descent more than 1000meters, most vitamins will begin to feel better. Besides altitude sickness, you have to be careful with the strong ultraviolet rays and severe dryness. To avoid conjunctivas, wear sunglasses. Do not forget to take skin protection cream, lip cream and sunscreen.
Altitude sickness or Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) in another word is one of the deadly serious problems many trekkers are facing often in their trekking span. The very important medical consideration while trekking in Nepal is "Prevention is better than cure is applied to avoid AMS." The commonly appearing symptoms of AMS are as following.
