Trip Information

Tiji festival (Upper Mustang Festival) is a three-day ritual known as "The chasing of the Demons" that centers on the Tiji myth. The myth tells of a deity named Dorje Jono who must battle against his demon father to save the Kingdom of Mustang from destruction. The demon father wreaked havoc on Mustang by bringing a shortage of water (a highly precious resource in this very dry land) and causing many resulting disasters from famine to animal loss.

Dorje Jono eventually beats the demon and banishes him from the land. Tiji is a celebration and reaffirmation of this myth and throughout the festival the various scenes of the myth will be enacted. It is of course timed to coincide with the end of the dry winter / spring season and will usher in the wetter monsoon season (the growing season for Mustang). Tiji comes from the word "ten che" meaning 'the hope of Buddha Dharma prevailing in all worlds' and is effectively a spring renewal festival.

Outline Itinerary

Day 01 : pick up from the Int'L Airport, transfer to Hotel & well come diner.
Day 02 : sightseeing in Kathmandu valley with Guide.
Day 03 : Kathmandu to Pokhara by tourist bus/flight.
Day 04 : Pokhara fly to Jomsom and trek to Kagbeni (2800m) 4 hrs.
Day 05 : Kagbeni to Chele (3050m) 6 hrs. (10 days special permit)
Day 06 : Chele to Geling (3510m) 6 hrs.
Day 07 : Geling to Dhakmar (3750m) 6:30 hrs.
Day 08 : Dhakmar to Charang (3610m) 7 hrs.
Day 09 : Charang to Lo Manthang (3730m) 6 hrs.
Day 10 : Tiji Festival. 
Day 11 : Tiji Festival.
Day 12 : Tiji Festival.
Day 13 : Lo Manthang to Yara 6 to 7 hrs.
Day 14 : Yara to Tange (3200m) 7 hrs.
Day 15 : Tange to Tetang (3600m) 7 to 8 hrs.
Day 16 : Tetang to Muktinath (3800m) 6 hrs.
Day 17 : Muktinath to Jomsom (2700m) 5 to 6 hrs.
Day 18 : Jomsom fly back Pokhara.
Day 19 : pokhara fly or drive back Kathamndu.
Day 20 : Free/ shopping day in Kathmandu. 
Day 21 : Transfer to International Airport and fly home.
